Passage G.A.A. Club Hall of Fame - Bernie Meade

Bernie Meade was a player whose scoring achievements at Cork minor and under 21 level and at all  levels for his club, are nothing short of remarkable.

He made his competitive debut at the age of 11 in 1959.

As an underage player for Passage in both the City Division and the South East he often won games single handedly.

In 1965 he was selected for the Cork minor hurling team. The following year he was the star of a very strong minor team and went all the way to Croke Park scoring an impressive two goals and six points. However the game still ended in a draw and Cork unfortunately lost the replay where Bernie again excelled scoring 1-4.

However in 1968 and 1969 he won two All Ireland medals at U21 level with a staggering tally of 1-12 in the 1968 final, a record that still stands today.

Between 1965 and 1969 he played 14 hurling championship matches with Cork and his lowest score in any one game was three points.

As well as a fine hurling career there is a broad consensus in Passage that Bernie was one of the finest football players in the club.
