120 Years of GAA in Passage
By Matt Aherne
Best Club Publication
McNamee Awards 2007
This is a stunningly produced book on the Passage West GAA club and the history of Gaelic Games in the area that will serve as an important source of local history as well as an fascinating story for any GAA fan.
Available in good Cork bookstores as well as in local Passage shops.
A Brief History of Passage G.A.A. Club
The history of Passage West G.A.A. club was compiled and published in 2006 and the book was launched at the club pavilion midst a gallery of former club legends and G.A.A. dignatories. The honour of launching the book was bestowed upon former Cork All Ireland hurler and former G.A.A. president, Mr. Con Murphy of Valley Rovers fame. Also present on the historic occasion were 2006 G.A.A. president, Mr. Nicky Brennan and Cork county board representatives.
The Passage history book was nominated by the club for the 2006 McNamee Award for the best club history publication of the year and Passage became the first ever Cork club to win this prestigious award.
Compiling the club history had been a labour of love for many years for the club historian, Matt Aherne, and the fruits of his endeavours were great recognition for years of research. In 2003 Matt recruited former Passage players, Seán Geary and Derry Doody, to assist with the compiliation, production and publication of the project. The club trio worked tirelessly to produce an excellent publication that is now a wonderful source of knowledge for all current and future generations of Passage gaels.
