JUNIOR B FOOTBALL
Passage 2—04 Douglas 1—7.
Our Junior B Footballers will have to do it all again after their draw with neighbours Douglas in the Junior B City Championship Final played at a sun drenched Ballinlough last Sunday morning.
Despite losing a few players to the Junior A Championship side Passage got off to a great start with a fisted goal from Daniel O’Leary inside the first minute, indeed the same player was unlucky not to tack on another goal minutes later when his fisted attempt from a high ball just went the wrong side of the goalpost.
Passage were playing the better football throughout the first half with some sweeping movements up the field that at times had Douglas at sixes and sevens. Our midfield of Jack Summer s and Daniel Howard were dominating proceeding, while O’Leray was causing all sorts of problems up front.
In a very low scoring first half O’Leary put over two frees, while Douglas got their first score on the board on 28 minutes and another two points followed to let the score 1—2 to 3points at the break.
The second half saw Douglas start well with a goal inside a minute to take the lead for the first time, but Another O’Leary fisted effort had Passage back in front inside two minutes.
Douglas then hit a purple patch putting over three points from play to let the score level with ten minutes remaining. O’Leary nudged Passage back in front with a well taken free. But as the clock reached the 60 minute mark, Douglas were rewarded a free for a Passage player over carrying the ball, which they duly slotted between the posts to bring us all back to Ballinlough next Sunday morning at 12—15. Passage were well served by Robert Kind in goal, Conor Quigley in defence ,Jamie O’Sullivan until he went off injured, while the midfield pairing of Summers and Daniel Howard were solid. O’Leary proved a handful up front for the Douglas backs as he scored all the Passage scores.
