U15 Hurling
Passage 1---06 Youghal 1—09
Passage West Under 15 Hurlers brought the curtain down on their long season when going under to Youghal in the Under 15 B Hurling league Final played at a wet Cloyne pitch on Bank Holiday Monday.
For most of the Lads it was their third final in as many weeks, as they were involved in two Football finals, winning both, that and the tough conditions took it out of the lads as they just came up short against a strong Youghal side.
Forced to play without a number of regulars , Passage were under pressure in the opening half, but some good play by the Passage keeper Jack Lake and the solid defending of Robbie Maxwell at full back, helped by Sean O’Mahony, Joe O’Keefe and Ronan Quirke, kept Passage in the game.
Cathal Maloney once again put over three nice points to have the sides level at the break.
Passage started the second half well and took a point lead before a fortunate goal had Youghal back in front. A great goal from the hurley of Luke Tett had Passage still in the game as the light started to fade. Youghal pressed hard and put over two points to run out winners by three points.
Cathal Moloney once again showed his skill, as he scored 6 points , while Luke Tett was always a danger in the forward line, scoring a good goal to being Passage back into the game, Ronan Quirke also showed well for Passage.
As the season ends for this bunch of lads, a lot of credit must go to the mentors Barry Harrington, Dave Maxwell and Ian Lester for all their work throughout the season.
Next year will see a lot of the Lads move up to Under 16 Hurling and they can look forward with some optimism for the future of hurling in the club.
