130 YEARS CELERBRATIONS
A very special function took place at the Billy Cotter Pavilion Manning Park last Friday Night when our Chairman John O Connor launched our 130th year in the GAA. Alan Cadogan whose great great grandfather, Ned Cadogan, was involved in the formation of the club, launched our list of activities for the year.
John O’Connor told those present that for the forth sight of men like Dan Huggins, Mattie Fitzpatrick, Dave O’Neill and Ned Cadogan Passage GAA and the wonderful facility’s would not be here at present.
Club Historian Matt Ahern gave a brief outline on the history of the club from its foundation in 1885. He told about a hurling match being played between Passage and Monkstown as early as 1876, well before the foundation of the Gaa. He spoke of Passage first involvement in the inaugural County Championship in 1887, when despite not being beaten on the field, the final against St Finbarr’s was never played as there was a dispute about the other semi final Cork Nationals later to become Blackrock and St Finbarrs. The Cork County Board of the time decided that Passage would play Cork Nationals in the final but it was never played. The following year Cork Nationals got their medals and the trophy, while Passage are still waiting for their medals many years after. Matt Ahern gave a huge insight into the history of the club as he said Passage hold a proud history in the GAA, supplying players in all grades to the various Cork teams.
Chairman John O’Connor said that the club would be holding various events, to celebrate the year, April 7th to 9th Easter Camp for under 5 to 15, April 24th is the 10K Road Race, May 31st the Club Family Day, July 24 is the Golf Classic in Monkstown Golf Club, September 12th is the Girls Under 10, and 8's Football Blitz. November 14th is the Club Dinner Dance at Rochestown Park Hotel, December 5th will be the Gathering Day for all past officers of the club at Billy Cotter Pavilion.
MINOR FOOTBAL
Our Minor footballers got their season up and running with a comprehensive victory over Saint Nicks at Manning Park on Sunday last, playing a nice brand of open fast football they completely dominated the visitors scoring five goals in the opening period and three more after the turn over. Passage had lost seven players from last year’s minor team but the boys stepping up from Under 16 team made up for the shortfall.
UNDER 15 FOOTBALL
Our Under 15 Football team had their first outing of the season when they played Sam Mc Guires in the Under 15 Premier 2 League last Sunday morning. In a very tight game played in perfect conditions Passage were unlucky to go down by four points after a very good hours play.
