JUNIOR A FOOTBALL
Passage 9pts, Delaney’s 2—06
Passage Junior A Footballer’s got their League programme under way when they played a strong Delaney’s side at Manning Park on the 1st Sunday in February. The game had an added bonus as it doubled up for the final of the 2014 Mc Swiney Cup as well.
Passage started well with Marc Howard opening the scoring with a well taken point after 5 minutes. Passage tagged on another point from Shane Burke before Delaneys opened their account on 13 minutes. Both sides were playing open attacking football and the score changed hands a few times. But Passage were dealt a blow just before half time when Delaneys were rewarded a penalty which was tucked away to the bottom corner to let the score at the break 5pt to 1—3 in favour of the Dublin Hill side.
Passage started the second half well with Colm Driscoll putting over three points, to go 8 pts to 1—03 after 45 minutes, Niall McCarthy tacked on another point to let it 9 pts to 1—04 with Passage at this stage looking like winners.
But with three minutes left Delaneys got the ball in fast to the forwards, where the full forward turned the back before planting the ball in the net. 9pt to 2—04, Delaneys controlled the final three minutes putting over two more points, as Passage did everything to get back into the game. But the Dublin Hill side hung on for a good victory and took the McSwiney Cup back to Dublin Hill for the first time since 1976.
Passage 4—08 Bishopstown 4—07
Passage Junior A Football team recorded a 1point victory over Bishopstown at Bishopstown last Sunday morning. In a very close game in which there were eight goals for the punters Passage just about deserved to take the points. Their next outing is away game with Brian Dillons at the Tank Field at 11am next Sunday Morning.
JUNIOR B FOOTBALL
Passage 5---15 St Finbarrs 1—05
Passage Junior B Football team got their season off to a great start with a well deserved victory over City Division B Champions, St Finbarr’s, at Manning Park on the first Sunday in February.
Playing nice attacking football the home side were much too strong for a poor Barr’s side. Indeed such was their supremacy that the score could have been a lot higher if Passage had opted to take their goals instead of taking long range points.
Passage 1---12 Whitescross 1---04
The team followed up that victory with another victory over a tough Whitescross side last Sunday evening, winning on a scoreline of 1—12 to 1—04. Again the team turned in a very good performance of fast attacking football, letting the ball do the work, while taking good scores from all area’s of the pitch.
Their next outing in the league is away to Whitechurch on Sunday next at 2—30pm.
MINOR FOOTBALL
Passage 1—14 Na Piarsaigh 3—6
Passage Minor Football team recorded a good victory over Na Piarsaigh in their Premier 2 League encounter at Na Piarsaigh last Saturday. In a game where all the players put in a very good performance, the stand out player on the field was Kealan O’Flynn, who covered every blade of grass during the 60 minutes.
This performance follows on from a very good victory over St Nicholas the previous week.
u15 FOOTBALL
