Junior A Football
Passage 6pts, Douglas 3—05
A much depleted Passage Junior A Football side went down 6pts to 3—05 to Douglas in the Junior A Football Championship first round at Ballinlough on Sunday morning last.
Forced to field without a lot of last year’s team due to injury’s and other circumstances, Passage were no match for a much better Douglas side.
Scoring 2 points in the opening 30 minutes and conceding 2—03 tells its own story. Douglas took the lead inside five minutes, a point from Finbar Desmond. Colm Driscoll levelled up matters on 10 minutes before Douglas struck for the first of their three goals,
Number 8 Cormac Dineen finding the net after a fine run in from the left side. Two more points had Douglas well in control before Driscoll had the Passage second point on 27 minutes.
Douglas dealt Passage a severe blow just before the break when Finbarr Desmond had their second goal. It let the score at the break 2—03 to 2pts for Passage.
The second half was no better for the Harbour side as Douglas pushed home their superiority. Passage did have points from Kealan O’Flynn, Marc Howard and Darragh Murphy but a second goal from the boot of Finbarr Desmond on 54 minutes had the game well over as a contest at that stage.
