PASSAGE 2—16 St Vincents 2—14
Passage Junior Hurling team turned in a fighting performance in overcoming a very strong St Vincent’s side by two points in the City Division Junior A Hurling first round Championship game played at a blustery Ballinlough on Saturday night.
St Vincent’s were fast out of the blocks going two points in front in the opening 2 minutes, Colm Ahern and John Paul Murphy doing the damage. Passage opened their scoring with a Marc Howard free from inside his own half on 3 minutes, before Vincent’s threatened to get a hold of the game when they put over three points without reply. Passage playing good fast hurling settled down with Marc Howard and Alan Keane both scoring good points to cut the lead to two points after 10 minutes.
Passage took the lead a minute later when a cross ball was fumbled by the St Vincent’s keeper Emmet O’Sullivan and full forward Thomas Mullane was on hand to hit home.
St Vincent’s were level a minute later John Paul Murphy scoring from a free, centre back Anthony Buckley put the city side in front on 18 minutes, hitting over a long range free.
Marc Howard and Derek O’Connor then exchanged points, before Colm Ahern once more had Vincent’s in front 1--05 ---9pts. With the game flowing up and down the field, Passage hit a purple patch scoring four points from Howard, Daniel Hanlon, and Eoin O’Brien. Colm Ahern responded with a good point for Vincent’s to let the score at the break, 1—09 to 10 pts.
The second half was a very tight affair with both sides playing some very good hurling. Vincent’s had a point on two minutes to cut the lead to a point before hitting Passage with a double whammy when Colm Ahern hit the net twice for the City side in two minutes to give them a commanding lead 1—09 to 2—11 with 37 minutes gone. Number 8, Keith Sorenson, increased the lead to 6 points a minute later as Passage tried to regroup.

The Passage response was to thunder into the game as they pushed forward for scores. 47 minutes gone and it was all to play for when a dropping ball in to the Vincent’s goal saw a mighty scramble before right half forward Thomas O’Neill bellowed the net to leave the minimal in it with 11 minutes remaining. 2—12 to 2—13.
In a welter of excitement two Marc Howard free’s put Passage one point in front as Vincent’s discipline left them down. Vincent’s were not giving up easily and the game looked to be going to extra time when number 9 Anthony Harte levelled the game 2-14 a piece with time up. Both sides pushed for the win as referee Dave Daly played injury time. But Marc Howard the Passage chief marksman hit over the final two points in injury time to give Passage a well deserved victory.
In a thrilling game of hurling, both sides put in a very good hours performance. Marc Howard hit over a massive 13 points, while Alan Keane commanded centre back, ably assisted by corner back Liam Cotter and Gareth Cleary. Eoin O’Brien and Graham Carroll performed well in midfield, while half forwards Thomas O’Neill and John O’Byrne turned in a good hours work.

Our Under 14 Boys football team will represent our Club at the National Football Feile which will be held at Carlow and Wexford on weekend of 26/28th June. St Ann’s of Wexford will be our host club.
UNDER 15 HURLING
Passage 3—13--- Cloyne 4—13
Passage Under 15 Hurling team put in a very good performance but went down by one goal in the opening game of the Danno Mahony Cup played at Cloyne last Sunday evening.
Both teams played some very good hurling over the hour and Passage were well served by Jordan Kenny , Sean O’Mahony, Jamie McCarthy, Liam Power and Thomas Harrington.
This competition is run by the club to honour a great Clubman Danno Mahony who did tremendous work for the club for many years.
JOHN KERINS QUALIFYING BLITZ
Passage hosted the qualifying round of the John Kearns trophy for under 11 football teams last Sunday afternoon at a sunny Manning Park. Teams from Crosshaven, Ballinhassig, Shamrocks and Passage taking part. Over the afternoon the teams served up some nice football and the spectators went home happy. Well done to the organisers.
UNDER 9 HURLING
Under 9 Blitz, Passage hosted an Under 9 hurling blitz at Manning Park on Saturday last with over 23 teams taking part. Once again the Blitz was a resounding success with all the teams enjoying themselves. The aim of these games is to get young players used to team sport while learning the skills of the game. A big thanks to the organisers and to the clubhouse staff for their hospitality during the day.
CLUB REPRESENTATIVES
At present the club has a number of players on various Cork Squads, Callum Finnegan Under 14 football, Scott Coughlan Under 16 Hurling, Thomas O’Neill and Ronan Harrington who both starred on Junior hurling championship winning team are on the Under 17 development side.

Once again our club family day will held at Manning Park on Sunday 31st May. The organisers have put together a wonderful day of activity for all the family over the afternoon. We are hoping that the parents will bring their children to enjoy the day and take part in the various events on the day. Five Euros will cover most activates for the day. So come along with your children and enjoy the day, meet other members and take part in the various activities. We are asking new family’s in the locality to come along and enjoy our community

Pasaiste Og continues at Manning Park on Friday evenings from 5-45 to 7—15,
These sessions are supervised by qualified coaches and are of great benefit to the young children in teaching them the basics of hurling and football. We are inviting all young family’s in the Parish to bring along their children on a Friday night and get involved.
CAMOGIE
The Camogie has commenced training under supervision of qualified coaches for information and times , venue etc see www.passagewest.ie
The mentors are putting in great work at this age level and we are asking that the budding camogie players out their will come along and take part.
